As part of the marketing of Troy Boston, a new apartment building developed by Gerding Edlen and designed by Stantec in Boston’s South End, over, under was commissioned to design a model unit in collaboration with the furniture store Lekker. The unit’s demand for economy of space necessitated furnishings and elements that could be used flexibly. The space is orchestrated around a trio of low surfaces (bed, couch, table) that each sponsor multiple uses. They are integrated by a chromatic spectrum of grays, active against bursts of intense hue, that work in tandem with the exposed concrete ceiling and light finishes throughout the unit. Custom patterns on walls are used instead of individual artworks in an effort to avoid cluttering the rooms with too many elements. Photos by Bob O’Connor.
