Designated as Abu Dhabi's new Central Business District in Plan Abu Dhabi 2030, Al Maryah Island (formerly Sowwah Island) is designed to meet long-term commercial and community needs. Located at the nexus of the existing city and new growth areas, the 114 hectare project is envisioned as the focus of a fully integrated financial center that is also a vibrant mixed-use community. Al Maryah Island is intended to provide a compelling and dynamic environment in a compact urban context.
The Vision Book tells the the story of Al Maryah Island thus far, and the collective effort that has gone into its realization. Each section examines an aspect of the island's design, including diverse precedents, comparative land reclamation, an active and innovative public realm, ambitious infrastructure, landmark buildings and bridges, and, mot importantly, the ways in which urban design and architecture can redefine the contemporary Arab city.
The book was designed as a right to left document, and a concerted effort was made to design a fully integrated text.
The Al Maryah Island project is in collaboration with Utile.
Master plan is by Broadway Malyan.
